Types of Events
- Funrides
- Marathons races
- CrossCountry races
Funrides are for every one no matter your fitness or skills. The routes are normally jeep tracks without too much hills. There's no winner prices but lots of lucky draw prices afterwards. These are social, fun events where you can meet fellow cyclists and chat mountainbiking.
Marathons are longer off-road races and are extremely popular seeing that the events are usually staged outside of towns and there's camping involved. The race intensity is not as high as in the CrossCountry races and waterpoints gives you time to get your breath back. The Nedbank MTB Challenge and the Cycle Classic MTB (both new for 2011) are good examples.
CrossCountry races are the serious lungbusters. These races are done on a marked course and consists of a number of laps determined by your category. They are much shorter than the marathons but higher in intensity and involves quite a bit of technical skills. You are allowed to stop or slow down during the race if your legs are screaming for mercy. You provide your own feeding crew if you want support. These races are good for building power endurance.
