A 2 Day Mountain Bike Marathon presented by:
Land Rover Namibia and Windhoek Light

WHAT IS NEW IN 2018?

Prologue ‐ There will be a non‐compulsory Prologue event on Friday evening, 10 August 2018. This will consist of a timed time trail around the Midgard Country Lodge area and Game Park. Windhoek Light Tented Race Village ‐ Furthermore this year we will have the Windhoek Light Tented Race Village – a tented village on the Midgard premises for rider accommodation.

IT IS ALL ABOUT TEAM WORK

The FNB Otjihavera Experience is a 2 Day MTB Marathon where you need to participate in a team of 2 riders.

The following categories can be entered into ‐ age categories will be determined by the combined age of the 2 riders in the team as at 31 Dec 2018. The youngest participants need to turn 16 by 31 December 2018:

MENS Teams: 70 and less Combined age; 70 – 95 Combined age,  96 and more (3 podium positions in each category)

WOMENS Team: Open category only (5 podium positions)

MIXED Teams Combined age:  Open category only (3 podium positions)

Please note that you will have to stick to your team member. Teams need to stay within 2 minutes apart from each other at all times during the race. This will be strictly enforced. Failure to do so will contribute to a 1 hour penalty to your time.

Entry Fees – N$ 2,000.00 per TEAM

Entries Close – 30 July 2018

Last day for substitutions – 6 August 2018, at a fee of N$ 250.00 per rider change. Please note that Entry Fees are not refundable.

The entry procedure

1) Enter online following the link at www.rockandrut.org which will take you to the Chronotrack online entering portal

2) 1st Team Member to enter also creates the Team with Team Name. Please consult with your team member prior to entry in order to avoid double entries

3) 2nd Team member now join the Team by selecting the Team Name now available from the list

4) Once you have entered you will both get a confirmation email from Chronotrack

5) Only a single Team Member to pay the entry fees of N$ 2,000.00 via EFT to the following account within 48 hours and mail the Proof of Payment to accounts@rockandrut.org. Please use your Team Name as reference.

ROUTE AND EVENT FORMAT

Newly introduced in 2018 is a timed non‐compulsory Prologue to be hosted on Friday evening. This will be an easy short loop through the Midgard Country Estate property and Game Park. Day 2 and 3 will be similar to last year consisting of mostly farm roads and jeep tracks with short single track sections.

Day 1 (Friday, 10 August 2018) – Prologue ±10km loop through the Midgard Country Estate and Game Park, with teams starting in 1min intervals. Start – 17:00 (with 1min intervals)

Day 2 (Saturday, 11 August 2018) Start – 08:00 at Midgard Country Estate ± 70km Prize giving and lucky draws – 13:00

Day 3 (Sunday, 12 August 2018) Start – 08:00 at Midgard Country Estate ±68km Prize giving and lucky draws – 13:00

Details of supporter viewing points will be communicated closer to the event. The farmers have again generously agreed to let the race take place on their private farmland. This is a great privilege and to ensure that we can come back year after year, please take care to only leave behind tracks, sweat and maybe a little blood.

MIDGARD COUNTRY ESTATE ARRANGEMENTS

Midgard will be the “Race” Village” for this event. Midgard offered some good rates for this event, which are outlined below for the different options. All accommodation needs to be booked directly with Midgard Country Estate on their event specific portal. You will receive the link with your Chronotrack confirmation email. Please note that it is each entrants own responsibility to book accommodation (either room, train or tented village) with Midgard Country Estate. Please use Otjihavera MTB 2018 as your reference with them.

Accommodation: Single N$ 1,300.00; Double N$ 980.00; Children 7‐15 years N$ 490.00; Children 0 – 7 years Free

Room Train: Single/Double N$ 620.00 Children 7‐15 years N$ 310.00; Children 0 – 7 years Free

Windhoek Light Tented Village: Single/ Double N$ 520.00;  Children 7‐15 years N$ 260.00; Children 0 – 7 years Free

*All rates are per person per night and includes a buffet dinner and a buffet breakfast. Children younger than 7 years eat and stay for free. Please remember to include children in your booking with Midgard.

Train – The Trains are Midgard’s equivalent to camping. Three unique stationed passenger train carriages that can accommodate either two or one guest per cabin. All guests will have to travel with their own bedding (sleeping bag and pillows), towels and toiletries. The beds in the cabins are 180cm long and 50cm wide. The ablution facilities are shared and located next to the carraiges.

Windhoek Light Tented Village – Please note that accommodation in rooms at Midgard is limited. Hence we have introduced the Windhoek Light Race Village in the 2018 Edition of the FNB Otjihavera Experience to give all participant the option to stay at the start and finish venue. At the Windhoek Light Tented Race Village you will be able to book a tent including dinner and breakfast from the Midgard Country Estate portal. All guests will have to travel with their own bedding (matrass, sleeping bag and pillows), towels and toiletries. There will be warm showers and toilets available within the Race Village. Please note all rooms, train carriages and tents need to be evacuated by 11:00 on Sunday 12 August. Midgard is also in the process of creating a few cycling tracks and running trails and will launch these with the Otjihavera event. Hence in future you will be able to train for the Otjihavera on the Midgard trails or just have a relaxed cycling / xtrail weekend with the family at Midgard Country Estate.

There is also a small surpise for all who booked accommodation at Midgard.

Meals

Accommodation rates above include a buffet dinner, bed and buffet breakfast and are only for persons who have booked accommodation at Midgard. Lunch for Saturday and Sunday are included in the Entry Fee. You will receive a meal coupon in your entry envelope to be used to obtain your lunch at Midgard Country Estate on Saturday and Sunday. Lunch for supporters and family members can be purchased directly at Midgard Country Estate at N$ 100.00 per person per lunch. Snacks and drinks will be available through the day. Cash and cards will be accepted.

Meal times

Breakfast – 06:00 to 08:00

Lunch – 12:00 to 14:00

Dinner – 19:00 to 20:30

After a relaxed dinner Midgard will be lighting fires in the Boma and Fire Pit and the bar will be open for a last night‐cap and friendly war stories for the day around the fire

IN CLOSING

While the organizers take great care around safety of all participants, mountain biking always holds the risk of injury and hence it is important that each rider has appropriate medical and evacuation cover.

The 2018 FNB OTJIHAVERA EXPERIENCEMTB MARATHON presented by LAND ROVER and WINDHOEK LIGHT promises to be a mountain bike race not to be missed. Make sure you get your entry and logistics sorted out early to avoid disappointment.
