For the 2017 MTB Challenge on the first day, similar to last year a Time Trial has been introduced in addition to the 2 stages of the marathon that will take place on day 2 & day 3.
The Time Trial will follow a short 10-12km technical, demanding track and is compulsory for only the full marathon riders. The riding time of the Time Trial will be added to the riding time of day 2 & day 3 to calculate the overall riding time.
Upon arrival at Klein-Aus Vista on the 29th April, please register at the Windhoek Lager Beer tent with the marshals. If you are participating in the Full Marathon then get ready to take part in the Time Trial that will begin at 2.30pm with start time intervals of 30 seconds between the riders. For the faster riders it will take 40 minutes and the slower riders 60 minutes to complete the distance of 10-12km with an altitude gain of 375m. There will be special medals awarded “Burgers van die Berge” on the last day of the price giving ceremony for the 5 fastest times for the men and ladies riders for the Time Trial. Only riders that have registered for the Full marathon will be allowed to ride the Time Trial.
On the mornings of the 30th April & 1st May the starting time for both Half and Full Marathon riders will be at 7.30 am. The Half Marathon will cover a distance of 33km with an altitude gain of 735 meters and a riding time varying from 1h45 to 4 hours. The Full Marathon will cover a distance of 60km with an altitude gain of 1400 meters and a riding time varying from 3h15 to 6 hours. The marathon distance have been shortened to 60 km each day and the 60 km will be covered in only one circuit. With this decision we hope to encourage more riders to take part in the Full Marathon.
