The 2017 edition of the FNB Otjihavera Experience MTB Marathon driven by Land Rover will be the 12th anniversary of the race and will take place on 19 & 20 August 2017. This unique two day mountain bike event is generously sponsored by First National Bank of Namibia and Land Rover.

Like in 2016, both days will start and finish at the Midgard Country Estate!

Without the generous contribution from the farmers letting us ride through their farms and assisting with the water, points this race would not be possible.

IT IS ALL ABOUT TEAM WORK – As in 2016, you will be able to enter as a team only.

Important: 2-minute rule will be strictly enforced!!  Team mates may NOT be separated by more than 2 minutes from each other at ANY stage during the race.

Age categories will be determined by the COMBINED AGE of the 2 riders in the team as at 31 Dec 2017.  The youngest participants need to turn 16 by 31 December 2017.

Substitutions are allowed up to 4 August 2017 at a fee of N$150 per change.

The entry procedure will be as follows:

  1. Enter online following the chronotrack link above:
  • 1st team member to enter also creates the team;
  • 2nd team member then joins the team by selecting team name now available;
  • You will both receive an entry confirmation with banking details;
  • Only one team member to pay the total entry fee of N$1900-00 and forward the proof of payment to racereg@rockandrut.org. Please include the team name as reference in both the payment as reference, as well as the email subject.  Your entry is only guaranteed once the entry fee is paid in full and the proof of payment submitted as requested.

If you are unable to secure accommodation you can delete your race entry by sending an e-mail to racereg@rockandrut.org.  We suggest that you only pay your race entry once your accommodation bookings are secured, but within 48 hours of entering.

ROUTE & EVENT FORMAT

The 2017 edition of the race is that Day 1 and 2 will start and finish at Midgard Country Estate! Thus it will be a combination of new and old routes for the 2017 race, following mostly farm and single track.

The farmers have again generously agreed to let the race take place on their private farmland. This is great privilege and to ensure that we can come back year after year please take care to only leave mountain bike tracks, sweat and, your own, blood behind.

MIDGARD ARRANGEMENTS

Midgard offers special rates for the event, which are outlined below

for the different room categories.

All accommodation option (rooms or camping) include dinner and breakfast.  No self-catering camping is allowed on Midgard.

  1. ACCOMMODATION BOOKING PROCESS

Midgard accommodation bookings for the race weekend – Book here .  The link is also available on the Chronotrack email confirmation sent to participants on entry.  No telephonic bookings will be accepted by Midgard for the race weekend.

Please note that all bookings will be managed by Midgard directly.  Rock & Rut cannot enter into any correspondence in this regard.  Bookings are allocate

d on a first come first serve basis, with online bookings being time stamped.  Midgard will require proof of payment within 5 days of them sending a provisional acceptance of the booking via email.  Non-payment will result in the booking being made available to the next person in line.

TRAIN ACCOMMODATION: 

Dinner and breakfast is served at the Midgard main lodge along with all other Lodge guests.

Guests are required to bring their own bedding for accommodation in the train.

CAMPING: 

Midgard Country Estate has made 30 camping plots available for the Otjihavera Weekend! You need to bring your own tent and bedding, but you are not allowed to make a fire / cook any food at your tent.  Dinner and breakfast is included in the fee and is served at the Midgard main lodge along with all other Lodge guests.  Sufficient ablution facilities will be available for the campers.

  1. MEALS: DINNER AND BREAKFAST

As Midgard will be a ‘race village’ for the weekend of 18 – 20 August.  The Midgard menu was adapted to accommodate the large number of riders and family staying at Midgard.

Meal times are as follows:

  1. Breakfast: 6:00 – 8:00
  2. Dinners: 19:00 – 20:30

Dinner and breakfast will only be available to persons that have booked accommodation at Midgard (rooms, train or camping).  Dinner and breakfast will not available to persons that have booked accommodation elsewhere.

MEALS: LUNCH

As in prior years, lunch is included in the race entry fee for participants only.

Everyone else, including family members and friends residing at Midgard or elsewhere, can buy lunch tickets at Midgard for N$ 125 per person.  Snacks and drinks will be available through the day.  Cash and cards will be accepted.

OTHER ACCOMMODATION OPTIONS

Accommodation and camping facilities are also available at Otjiterazu Guest Farm near Midgard and can be booked directly with them at otjiterazu1@iway.na or +264 – 62 502441.

Please note that any refunds on accommodation are subject to the terms and conditions of the accommodation establishment and need to be dealt with directly with the accommodation establishment.

While the organizers take great care around the safety of all participants, mountain biking always holds the risk of injury and hence it is important that each rider has appropriate medical and evacuation cover.

The 2017 FNB OTJIHAVERA EXPERIENCE MTB MARATHON driven by Land Rover promises to be a mountain bike race not to be missed. Make sure you get your entry and logistics sorted early to avoid disappointment.
